Facebook rival?

Facebook might have a new rival that has been released in the last week. Google have stepped up into the world of social networking with their “google buzz”. Only available as a gmail user at this stage but soon to be for everyone to use. Is it too late for them to jump into this niche though? Time will tell and looking back at googles past conquests i can’t really see them flopping as everything google touch’s turns into gold. With the Nexus being released and doing very well who is to say “buzz” won’t. This might not be for a while anyway as it is still only available to gmail users. Google have said that they are not competing with Facebook and facebook have said that they will be looking forward to cooperating with google. Google vice president of product management Bradley Horowitz made this statement about whether buzz is to be a facebook/twitter killer:

“Absolutely not. Per what I just said, this is creating a new category of communication. It’s filling a niche, which is not currently met in the market. I think something unique is happening on Buzz that will continue to evolve. It’s hard to create a trend line or extrapolate too much from six days of use, but certainly conversation and the conversational Web is a place where Buzz has excelled. I think it is unique and offers a compelling, interesting experience.”

Does any of you out there use it? Plaese let us know what you think about it and whether it is as good as google says it is. Please leave you comments.

As you all may now know facebook has got a new home page. There are a few neat new things about this new layout. Here is an image to show you the key features :-

facebook new homepage

As you can see top right there are now highlighted icons letting you know if you have had new friend fequests, messages or notifications. There is a new account menu to the top left of your homepage allowing easier alterations to your account. Searches are available at the top of every page to make it easier to search for new friends.

The last feature is the menu system on the left which is very useful, this lets to arrange all your photos, messages etc from a drop down menu system. All in all the new system is based on making things a lot easier for the user. Now me personally, i can’t stand the constant changes and i am writing this to let others get to know the basic new layout. We must remember that facebook is only trying to make things easier for us and we’ll soon get used to this layout within no time at all. Hope this is some help to you all.
